FEATURES OF A TRANSLATORS

It is true that when you hear the term translator, one of the first features that come to mind is the mastery of different languages. But without a doubt, a translator must have more than that feature to stand out from the crowd. This text is prepared so that you know what features a good translator should possess.

•  COMMITMENT: 

Commitment is a willingness to give your time and energy to something that you believe in, or a promise or firm decision to do something.

The translator should not overlook the term of commitment in his or her profession. On the contrary, one of the main characteristics of any translator must be commitment. The translator must be a person in whom his or her word is worth gold. For example: If the translator agrees to finish and deliver a translation on a certain day and time, he or she must deliver. When the translator accepts a job, it becomes a commitment to be fulfilled. Likewise, by accepting a translation, he expects the customer to agree to pay for his work. Without a doubt, the commitment must be on both sides. The translator must also be a person who is committed to himself/herself, to wishing to be a better professional, to continue studying or training in order to do a better job.

• MOTIVATION:

Internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or topic, or to make an effort to achieve a goal. Without a doubt, motivation is a key part of a translator's job. The desire to do a good job and have his or her work recognized is important to him or her. An example of motivation in a translator can be the satisfaction of doing a good job, monetary motivation, attracting more clients, expanding their workplace and even being recognized internationally. It is important to emphasize that the translator must be motivated from the first moment, the interest and effort you put into your work will be the basis for a successful result. 

•  SELF ESTEEM:

Belief and confidence in one's own ability and worth. In other words, how much you appreciate and like yourself.

This is a characteristic that every person, professional or human being must possess. And without a doubt, the translator must have self-esteem, both for himself or herself and for his or her work. A translator is a person with many skills, knowledge, and abilities and these are demonstrated with their quality work. The self-esteem of the translator can be reflected, for example, when a customer asks for a translation and this customer wants to pay less than the value of the translation, at this moment the translator must VALUE his work, the effort, and sacrifice he has put into the translation and not accept less. The translator must value and appreciate his work, what he does every day and obviously, he is valuing his own abilities and commitment.

• FREE WILL:

Free will Is the ability to choose between different possible courses of action unimpeded.

Like every human being, the translator has the possibility to choose what best suits him/her and his/her profession. An example of free will maybe when the translator is given a translation job, but the client (a lawyer) tells him/her that he/she can omit certain words or phrases in order to win a case. Here the translator must have the ability to choose or reject that work. If accepted, the translator is well aware of the consequences. In such a simple example, we can analyze that free will is no more than the decision we choose when faced with a situation.

• HUMANITY:

Humanity is the human race, which includes everyone on Earth. It’s also a word for the qualities that make us human, such as the ability to love and have compassion and be creative. In translation profession, the translator needs to apply this value because if someone needs the service you need to project kindness and sympathy when you talk with a customer to create a good projection and have a good image with the customer to recommend you with other people, also have a good manner to attend the people.

• HUMAN NEEDS CONCEPT:

Human needs are elements required for survival and normal mental and physical health.

At this point it can be stated that one of the human being's needs is to be able to communicate. It is in this way where the role of the translator is important, he or she is key for the translation or the message that is going to be given, to be the most appropriate. This is why the translator must take into account and follow many steps to make a quality translation, taking into account the context.

• HUMAN NEEDS CLASSIFICATION:

It is important to emphasize that there are basic human needs in general.  As far as the translator is concerned, it should be noted that the translator must comply with or try to satisfy to a great extent the demands of his clients with regard to the quality of the translations. The translator must seek the help of lawyers, doctors, and other professionals, seeking as a main mission that their translation is 100% accurate.
